The Countess of Wessex attended a Service of Hope service yesterday at Southwark Cathedral in memory of those lost and injured during the recent attacks at London Bridge (after the service she walked to nearby Borough Market which has recently reopened). For these events, she repeated her black straw pillbox variation with black feather trim on the side. The feather trim makes this piece, I think, and it’s great to get a much better view of it than we saw at this hat’s debut at Easter.

This hat marks just the third time the Countess has stepped out in a hat this year, frequency that will no doubt change with Trooping the Colour today and Ascot coming up next week. In the meantime, what do you think of this straw pillbox, now that we’ve had a good look at it?
The hat is a fantastic pillbox. I wish I had one just like it.
I like the hat but this outfit looks like a cast-off from Maxima’s Natan wardrobe.
yeb you are wright …..terrible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
natan was a architect ……………..making buildings ………..do I have to say more??????????????????????????
sorry “an architect”
Yes, I understood. His interior designs are so much better than his clothes. If you go to a website called Belgian Pearls, and enter Natan or Edward Vermeulen in the search box it will pop up with a post about his home – he should have stuck with interiors and architecture. I’m a huge fan of that site as I love Belgian interior design.
When attending these type of functions I am sure extra care goes into choosing something not too showy or unusual so this seems to fit the bill. The hat is simple and somber with feathers which make it a bit more interesting. I don’t mind the outfit for the same reasons, the stripes giving it some pattern. The Countess looks lovely as usual.
I quite like the hat. What a difficult and uncertain time Britain has been through this year. It’s good that the Countess went to show concern and sympathy.
The hat is great, although interesting that we’ve only seen her three times in two hats this year, and they’ve both been black (along with her Christmas 2016 hat). Hope we get to see some color today and for Ascot! I agree with @JamesB the outfit is not very flattering.
I agree with everything James says.
I quite like it, but she sure does have a lot of small black hats. I really disliked the outfit when worn a few years back at Ascot; here it’s appropriate, but it’s not terribly flattering.
