Classic…a trait Princess Alexandra has never lost!
Now that is a Hat. Princess Alexandra has always been a favourite of mine. Does anyone else see a strange resemblance to Queen Sofia of Spain in this photo?
Not so strange at all! I am not sure of the exact relationship, Queen Sofia and Princess Marina (Alexandra’s mother) were both born into the Greek royal family.
Sofia and Marina are either 4th cousins or 2nd cousins twice removed (depending on which genealogy terminology you prefer) — there is a family tree of the Greek royal family on their Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_royal_family.
On the other hand, I don’t think they look alike at all!
They are related in several ways (though none I found seem to be the same as those Matthew found!): Alexandra and Sophia are second cousins through their descent from George I of Greece (Queen Alexandra’s brother), and third cousins through their common descent from Christian IX of Denmark. There are almost certainly other ties. But I agree with Matthew, that although they are related, this photo, I think, reveals only a passing resemblance.
I would love to see veils make a comeback. This hat has rather a mumsy look to my eyes perhaps because it’s a shape my grandmother wore so much (minus veil)
