Now that’s a lot of hat. It rather dwarves the diminutive Margaret doesn’t it. I normally like her 60s style, but this doesn’t do it for me. It’s a forerunner of her 90’s garden on the heads isn’t it.
Good point, JamesB- she did return to a similar shape in the 1990s.

Oh, that is funny! . . .gardens on the head. . .” I wonder why she went with those fluffy helmets. Too much hat.
Oh she did love a big hat. And not always (often…) in a good way!
Oh dear. She’s so pretty, yet it looks like she’s sporting a Muppet on her head!
PM on her arrival day, August 5, 1962, in pink variation on a theme.
She looks like Thing 1 from “The Cat in the Hat”. Today’s yellow version must be Thing 2.

Thanks for my morning laugh, Jimbo! I had an immediate visual on this.
ROFL, Jimbo!
Well, if one is going to wear a yellow hat that looks like a ball of chopped tulle — evoking images of troll dolls and plastic shower poof balls –one has to own the look, and PM certainly does that here. She looks divine. I adore this hat, so cheeky and unstuffy. And check out that faaaabulous yellow dress: http://www.gettyimages.com.au/detail/news-photo/celebration-of-the-independence-in-jamaica-with-the-news-photo/166717590#celebration-of-the-independence-in-jamaica-with-the-princess-margaret-picture-id166717590
In the first photo she has such a stunning smile and the sunny yellow is really set off by her dark hair. She was truly beautiful and this hat though dated to us today was vogue at the time.
I do love that shade on her, but there should be a crimes against millinery feature, where this could be a contender!
In the second photo it looks like a bad wig.
On one hand, yikes! On the other hand, I totally remember when people wore things like that, the more outrageous the better – a fashion trend that hopefully will not return!
No, just no. PM looks as if she’s been trawling through the Queen Mother’s closet.
