‘New’ Hat From the Past #26

Royal Hats to July 21, 1988 and a tall green flower trimmed bumper hat worn on a visit to Devon. It’s a striking piece in colour, scale and gently curved shape which Her Majesty wears very well- so well, in fact, that I’m surprised not to remember seeing it before.

  1. Love this!! Gorgeous colour on HM. Almost 30 years ago but still so fresh. Loving this series HQ BTW Thanks. What a handsome man the Duke was/is….and a very strong resemblance to his equally dashing grandson Harry in the second photo. Something about that peering to the left photo…the eyes I think. Keep up the fun all.

  2. I agree, this hat looks very nice indeed. The “beret” shape — off-centre, the irregular curves, the tapering on one side — are what make this bumper the most flattering of those we’ve seen recently.

  3. Yes,HatQueen, you are giving us a wide assortment of hats .on which to ponder and comment. The Queen looks good in green. It must have been a very chilly July day for that buttoned up wool coat.

  4. This one is so regal, isn’t it? It’s a bit Queen Mary. I agree that the ensemble seems too wintry for July, though.

  5. Oh this is lovely. What a great shape for her majesty. I seem to remember something like this shape more recently- maybe in a pale purple/blue/periwinkle? But I really love the strong green here.

  6. HM seems heavily dressed for July. She looks great in ANY green shade.
I too, am totally enjoying this millinery blast from the past. Most of these are new to me, also.
