Queen Máxima At World Health Care Congress

Queen Máxima was in The Hague today to take view the Smart Solutions Expo and panel session ‘Lets go Global Health’ at the World of Health Care congress. For this event, she repeated her ruched black silk calot hat.

Calot hats can easily be boring or one-note but the movement in this one, provided by all those ruched pleats, keeps it interesting. Paired with Máxima’s summery black and white dress and statement earrings, the hat tops an attractive working ensemble.

  1. I agree with Matthew that hairstyles can make or break these types of hats, but this one is my least favorite outing. A side chignon would’ve looked better in my opinion, but honestly I think her black slice hat would’ve been a better choice of headwear.

  2. I always feel slightly inappropriate commenting on funeral/memorial clothing but I actually like the look of this hat from the memorial service best.

  3. Having looked back at the three earlier outings of this hat, it is clear the extent to which the hairstyle makes a difference with a hat of this type — I definitely prefer this appearance over the earlier ones, and disagree with Hats On regarding the earrings, I think these add to the drama of the entire outfit, which is at the same time businesslike and yet very elegant.

  4. I love the ruched calots – this silk one is beautiful and avoids some of the issues of the ones made with banana leaves or stiffer fabrics (not looking good at all angles). It seems comfortable to wear and nicely complements the outfit in a quieter way than a true hat.
