Countess Of Wessex At Military Parade

The Countess Of Wessex was in Dorking today to bid a celebratory farewell to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre Headley Court. For a thanksgiving service at St Martin’s Church followed by a parade of servicemen and women through the town, she repeated her swirled saucer percher hat in pale blue-grey straw.

Today’s events gave us a better view of the piece than we saw on its first outing- we can now see that the blue crin flowers are placed on both sides of the elevated top of the saucer, giving beautifully light movement to the design. It’s an exquisite piece that again, paired with Sophie’s streamlined blue silk coat, makes for a very sophisticated ensemble.

  1. Sophie looks more polished this time around, and I think her more refined hairstyle is key to this. The color still washes her out a bit, especially because it’s overcast, but otherwise I like this even more than last time.

  2. Although this is a percher, it’s substantial enough to seem a really satisfying proper Hat. I agree it does look good from all angles.

  3. She looks stunning here. She really brought her A game for this important engagement (Dorking isn’t a huge place and it looks like the whole town was out to see her), which Ian lovely. She really does look fabulous here, and her hair is beautiful.

  4. this is so so gorgeous. I love the shape of the hat, I love the trim, and I love the way it looks on the COW. So wonderful to have such great millinery. I feel like we’ve been in a bit of a shortage of good hats lately. Q Max has looked lovely but she’s been wearing a bunch of brimless things that aren’t my personal favorite. I squeed out loud seeing this!!

  5. A wonderful hat, so interesting from all angles, and the color suits her very well. Looking back at the previous wearing of this outfit, am I imagining it, or has that asymmetrical hemline now been straightened out?

  6. Simply beautiful. I agree that it is that rare hat the looks good (and interesting) from all angles. The pairing with her coat and hairstyle is lovely. I particularly like how the curved detail at the front of the coat echoes the shape of the hat.
