Back on January 1st, Princess Hisako was at Saitama Stadium to present the winning trophy after the 97th All Japan Football Championship final. For this event, she wore an interesting new black hat. The design features a close fitting rounded crown (similar to a bowler or cloche) with upfolded brim trimmed with a hatband that appears to buckle on the side through a series of grommets. The brim is vented on one side, giving it relaxed points and a lovely sense of movement around the hat.

We see so few royal hats with brims cut open the way this one is- a simple design feature that gives such a different look and energy to the hat. Thanks to reader Avery for bringing this hat to my attention!

I like this hat a lot. She brought her personality along with her too! She is a vivacious princess. She wears hats very well and always looks stylish.
I agree with Matthew that seeing Hisako at this sporting event is a nice change from the usual outings. Concerning the hat, it’s not my favorite ever for Hisako, but it definitely is a more modern look for a Japanese princess (even one as daring as Hisako), and paired with the cobalt blue skirt suit, it is quite successful. May this princess be around for many years to come!
Interesting and a bit lighthearted without being ridiculous – spot on!
A very fun look!
Princess Hisako looks pretty. The blue color is very lovely on her and the hat is really nice.
This hat looks wonderful on Princess Hisako! I wish I could see the open brim side better.
Delightful!
Oh this is fabulous! I’d love to see more close-ups!
I would also like to add, the Imperial family so often appears at serious or educational functions, it was great to see a Japanese princess at a sports event, and clearly enjoying herself!
