Prince Henrik passed away peacefully last evening following a short illness. A jovial character, he will be remembered as a colorful and complicated prince, poet, pianist, diplomat, wine maker, linguist, husband, father and grandfather known for his frank and forthright approach to life and love for his family. We offer Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik, Prince Joachim and the rest of the Danish royal family wishes for peace and comfort as they mourn his loss.

Very nice tribute to Henrik, may he rest in peace.
A lovely and fitting tribute. Thank you
Seldom seen without a smile – I only hope as much can be said of me in the end. And he wore an impressive range of hats (both figuratively and literally).
Henrik in Hats! Made me smile today, despite feeling sad. Thanks for the great tribute to the Prince.
I’m surprised that looking at many photos today of Henrik, particularly when he was younger, I’m only now seeing how much Freddie resembles his Dad. It’s a shame that, publicly at least, his last couple of years were a bit controversial. But the galleries of photos show someone who had bonhomie and clearly loved his family (that’s a marvellous shot with Joachim’s boys) – and boy, did he have some great hats!
Thank you, HatQueen, for putting together such a wonderful tribute — the Prince will certainly be missed. The article on the Royal Central website has additional photos plus a nice look back at Henrik’s younger years — if anyone is interested, it is here:

Controversies aside, Prince Henrik was a man who could wear many hats well, and certainly was among the most fashionable royal men in Europe who wasn’t afraid of some color and patterns (something I really appreciate). Dementia and the quick breakdown of a loved one’s health are not easy things; thoughts and prayers are with the Danish royals at this time.
Random side note: At first I thought Sonja was wearing the most massive fur hat I’ve ever seen, but then I realized her own hat was just being haloed by the hat/hood of the person behind her.
That’s lovely. He and QM still had a very strong and devoted relationship, even with his recent behaviour (caused by his dementia I imagine.) So a very sad day for her and the rest of the family.
And he knew how to rock many a hat!!
Thank you, HQ – very nice set of photos. My favorite is still the 3rd from last, wintry sleigh ride. Just magical.
What a lovely way to commemorate the Prince, thank you Hat Queen.
Wonderful tribute, HQ.
What a lovely tribute to the Prince and his family. He will be missed.
That truly is a beautiful tribute to a man who was complicated, but very loved.
What a lovely tribute. Thank you for this post. RIP Henrik.
