Thank you, HatQueen, for featuring Imperial royals in your Hat from the Past posts — I was literally unaware of a Japanese royal family decades ago, so I always enjoy seeing these old photos. A different photo from the same visit can be found here:

Different coat and gloves, but it looks like the same hat.
Matthew, I was barely aware that there was a Japanese royal family (or, really, any other royals other than the British) until I started following this blog. It’s been quite an education!
The hat in the photo you posted looks to me more like flowers than fur, even though the shape is the same, In any case, this elegant Princess wore ‘60s fashions well.
I have to admit I didn’t recognize Princess Hanako ! I had to go and look her up – now I remember her wedding 😊 … at the time the Japanese Royal Family were pretty much unknown so there was not much fuss made when she and Prince Hatachi went to England ! Her hat is very 60’s isn’t it ? – I love it !. I wonder if it was very cold during their visit ? 😊
I visit your website about royal hats every day, and love it. You obviously put in hours of time doing your research. I especially enjoy when you list all the pretty new hats you’ve found during the week. Thanks for creating this wonderful royal hat site. No, I am not spam!
You’re most welcome! This little labour of love has grown far greater than I could have ever imagined and to be welcomed into the daily routines of so many lovely people… it’s an overwhelming gift.
