to Ascot in June 1982. Although pale ice blue was the colour chosen on this day by both the Queen and her mum, the Queen Mother’s look is far from restrained in this marvelous helmet of blue and palest pink organza flowers overlaid in a delicate chevron printed veil.

Oh my, that brooch! A wedding gift from Queen Mary is what I’ve been able to discover. A stunner.
The hat is also an, oh my, but not in a bad way. It should be terrible but it was so much the Queen Mother’s style that it just makes me smile.
Princess Stephanie of Luxembourg wore a black lace veil for her father’s funeral today. Princess Sybilla of Luxembourg wore a black hat with brown fur cuffed brim

The hats don ‘t really thrill me but I really love HM’s coat!
The QM must have enjoyed this hat, as it is seen at least two more times, including just one month later with closer detail:

These are great. Some nice variety from the japanese ladies. Princess Hisako is always one of my favorites, but I really like Princess Nobuko’s hat here too.
Nobuko, Akiko, and Hisako are the winners here with the good detailing on their hats and gowns. Tsuguko holds much promise as well, but deserves a closer look; interesting that it looks like she’s wearing a fascinator and not a full-on hat.
I think Tsuguko’s headpiece is a reworked version of the headpiece she wore January 14, 2015
Classic QEQM, just before she went into her upturned brim phase (same again please, just in pink this time!)
Nobody else could have got away with this by the 80s, but she was beyond fashion and had crafted her own totally unique look, we’d have been disappointed if she had worn anything else! Iconic, I’d say.
…just as Queen Mary was beyond fashion in Monday’s post! No flapper styles for her!
Dazzling brooches for both queens here.
Yes indeed JamesB, QEQM was, and always be, a fashion law unto herself and her daughter is following her footsteps! I’ve long been a fan of QEQM’s hat style. I couldn’t wear the style but I still like it.
