Hats From the Past

Royal Hats86 years to this day in 1933 and an outing, by members of the British Royal Family, to the British Industrial Fair. It’s a look at two quintessential hat shapes- the young Princess Royal and Duchess of York in cloches that were so stylish at the time and Queen Mary in a striped toque.

  1. Here’s an excellent video (good quality for 1933!) of the event, starting from 1:16 to the end.
The first minute shows some fancy headwear also. Enjoy.

    • Jimbo, you never cease to amaze! Wonderful clip.

I don’t think the Queen is wearing a brooch, but she has some major sparkle around her neck. The stripes in the toque are unusual. I always imagine that she was an imposing mother-in-law.
