to June 20, 1969 when the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret arrived for the fourth day of racing during Ascot week that year. The Queen Mum’s blue hat covered in tulle ruffles and wraped in dotted veiling is memorable, but it’s the sweet daisy-covered brim on Princess Margaret’s halo hat that makes me smile.
Thanks for sharing any royal hats that happen to be worn around the world today, in the comments below.

for what it’s worth..i was amazed at the difference in the Queen Mother’s posture from this post to the one where she is seated in the carriage with the late Princess of Wales. getting (ahem) linear-ly challenged is not for sissies..
Princess Anne and Zara attended Grand National Meeting at the Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool on April 4. Anne’s dark green hat is new to me.

Here’s Zara
i don’t recognize Princess Anne’s either, Maja. Interesting swoosh of feathers. And Zara has worn so many blue perchers that I can’t tell whether this one is new, but she seldom (never?) repeats. Thanks for posting!
I agree that Anne’s hat does not look familiar. And as mittenmary already commented, very interesting. I like the way it ties together the green of her coat and the tan of her scarf.
I like Zara’s hat quite a bit — better than most of her other blue perchers. That veiling adds a lovely touch. If she never repeats, perhaps she is borrowing these hats? To my less trained eye, I’m guessing that Zara’s hat and that of her friend might have come from the same milliner — if you expand the photo to full size, they look similar to me.
And the green browny beige tweed bag! I really like this hat – shades of Rob Roy!
I’ve taken a look through the archives and I’m 99% certain that Princess Anne’s hat is new. Zara’s navy felt percher with leather flowers and veil is by British milliner Justine Bradley-Hill.
Very apropos for “Margaret” to be wearing daisies! (Margarita in Spanish)
Here’s a close-up shot, taken in Oxford, unconfirmed date in 1970. The daisies look life like!

In honor of Doris Day’s recent 97th birthday (she went to high school with my deceased mother-in-law!) may I remind everyone:
“Please Don’t Eat the Daisies.”
Thanks Jimbo, I knew I could rely on you! And I agree, the daisies look very life-like in the picture you attached. Also, I am LOVING the brooch that the Princess is wearing and don’t recognize it, but then again I haven’t been a close follower of Princess Margaret and her jewels.
Jimbo, I will do my best to refrain from eating daisies, though I can’t speak for the rabbit who often visits our yard. Loving your connection to fame via your mother-in-law– my mother went to HS with Dorothy Gilman, author of the Mrs. Pollifax novels. New Brunswick, NJ, where the novels are set, was where they were actually from (and where the HS was)! And just to keep this on topic, here is a link to an article containing a photo of the actress Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Pollifax, in a very odd looking hat.

I’d love to see the back of Princess Margaret’s halo hat. Perhaps Jimbo can work his magic? Classic Queen Mother in a lovely blue ensemble that matched her eyes.
Wow! Now there’s an Easter bonnet! Not sure I like it, but it makes quite a statement!!
