The Duchess of Cornwall was at the Port of Dover yesterday to name and christen a new cruise ship for the Saga line, “Spirit Of Discovery”. For this event, she repeated a straw hat in suitably nautical navy and cream straw.

The hat features a wide cream straw brim with gentle upsweep and a tall asymmetrical crown with formed, curving indent. The crown is wrapped in a wide cuff of folded navy straw over which sits a slim, cream silk hatband that forms a knotted twist on the side. While it’s a piece we’ve seen many times, it’s still one with great scale, shape and contrast. It’s a really good royal summer hat that pairs really well with Camilla’s lace trimmed navy dress and beautiful pearl jewelry.

We’ve not seen this hat in a year- any new thoughts after seeing it again yesterday?

This is a hat I have admired over the years, and I’m glad to see it again. I like it better with the feathers removed – that’s an interesting knot on the side, and the removal of the feathers lets it stand on its own.
I’ve never seen Camilla in glasses, but they really suit her! I agree with the comment that says that the hat really stands out from the ship, very nice. I like it.
I love the way the hat stands out against the massive navy background of the ship and therefore focuses the attention on Camilla’s face. Very smart dressing!
I’m sad that the feathers are missing. I think it looked so much better with the feathers. But I do still like the hat.
Good to see this hat again, but it’s not an obvious candidate to be paired with this dress. Two different navy blues, for a start.
Looking at the previous wearings of this hat, it seems there is not one outfit where the navy of the dress or coat matches the navy in the hat. So frustrating!
The third photo reminds me of princess Beatrix’s bumper hats, like Camilla’s hat sort of morphed slightly with the bumper shape.
I wish the navy of the dress and the navy of the hat would have matched
I’ve looked back at all the appearances of this hat (forgetting how old it is, and yet how timeless it remains), and now without the feathers, IMO the hat looks is better with an outfit that incorporates white, but that’s a minor critique, and I still think this is a good outing. This remains one of Camilla’s all-time best hats, one she’s gotten better at wearing, and I’m glad to see it’s still alive and well.
I’ve always liked this hat and still do. Not so enamoured of the lace corset around the dress, which seems a slightly different shade of blue to that in the hat – but good on her for not being in a pastel!
Agree 100%!
