The Duchess of Cambridge celebrated her birthday last week and among the wishes was this fun animation that gives us a moment to enjoy some of her hats.
The following new millinery designs caught my eye this week:
For our dear gents, this classic black rabbit felt fur trilby by Danish brand Hornskov København
Love the draped front on this violet felt bumper hat with felt floral trim by Czech milliner Jolanta Kotabova
Black felt formed beret with iridescent bow by British milliner Julian Garner
Wide brimmed peach straw pyramid saucer with trailing bow by Australian milliner Marilyn Van den Berg
Deep plum felt trilby with dramatic veil by British milliner Rachel Trevor Morgan
Emerald green straw brimmed picture hat with black crown and flying bow by Australian brand Millinery By Mel

And the most beautiful bandeau headpiece in ombre sinamay and silk roses by British milliner Dillon Wallwork

Much has been written and said about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s surprise announcement last week that they are stepping down as senior members of the British royal family to carve out an independent path. I appreciated this article by mental health advocate (and, it seems, friend of the couple) Bryony Gordon, published in the Telegraph (not one of the newspapers involved in the Sussex’s lawsuit). What articles have you found insightful and useful?
Lovely new family portrait released by the Luxembourg royal family to celebrate the new year.

  1. Hat Queen, the link to the Jane Taylor plum fedora is mixed with the Danish Crown Prince Family photo, so we are unable to see it.

I love the animation of the Duchess of Cambridge and her hats. That was fun!

    – I adore the white percher with gold accented orchids by Australian brand Allport Millinery. What a stunner! How pretty would Princess Beatrice or the Duchess of Cambridge look in this?
Charcoal straw teardrop percher covered in black blossoms with soaring feather trim by Merve Bayindir
    – I think the Duchess of Cornwall would love the red straw cartwheel brimmed picture hat by NY-based Suzanne Couture Millinery
    – CP Frederick would look great in the classic black rabbit felt fur trilby by Danish brand Hornskov København
    – I can Princess Eugenie or Autumn Phillips in the beautiful violet felt bumper hat with felt floral trim by Czech milliner Jolanta Kotabova
    – The feather looking bow on the black felt formed beret by British milliner Julian Garner are wonderful. I could see Zara Tindall in this fun design.
    – I love the peach straw pyramid saucer with trailing bow by Australian milliner Marilyn Van den Berg. Maybe Queen Maxima in that fabulous color?
    – Great deep plum felt trilby with dramatic veil by British milliner Rachel Trevor Morgan. Maybe the Countess of Wessex? I would absolutely love to see Princess Anne in it though 🙂
    – What a beautiful emerald green straw brimmed picture hat with black crown and flying bow by Australian brand Millinery By Mel. The color is great, and I would love to see the Duchess of Cambridge in this at Ascot. The hat shape is wonderful for Queen Mathilde as well.

Thanks for the link to the Bryony Gordon article HQ. It is very insightful. There is so much being talked about that it is difficult to make sense of anything. I found this article helpful on what it means to Canadians (cost, etc). https://www.macleans.ca/royalty/meghan-and-harry-quitting-royal-life-your-questions-answered/ In the end, it up to the Royal Family to figure all this out, and I think they’ll be mindful of everyone involved.

  2. this is a treat, so many new talent around, the one’s I love:
Allport Millinery, in a smaller version would persuade even the non-hat-loving royals to give it a try
Jolanta Kotabova lovely shape and color, easy to wear and style
Marilyn van den Berg, you can’t go wrong with this hat, has a summer flow to it
Dillon Wallwork lovely hat but needs good hat-hair otherwise it will overwhelm
