The Duchess of Cambridge has paired her fitted green wool crepe Catherine Walker coat with velvet collar, pockets and cuffs and brass buttons with two different pieces of millinery so far:
Look #1: With a green felt Lock & Co. saucer with flowers around the elevated back worn for the annual Irish Guards St Patrick’s Day Parade at Household Cavalry Barracks on March 17, 2017

Look #2: With a black velvet halo bandeau headpiece by Jane Taylor worn November 11, 2018

Which millinery design do you prefer most with this coat?

Give me a proper hat over a head band any day.
I had to go look at the picture again as my mind had read the cuffs, etc as black velvet. But, you are right it is forest green velvet. I would have preferred the hat anyway, but a forest green velvet bandeau would’ve helped the second look a lot!
See yesterday’s post for the perfect bandeau for this coat by London-based milliner Guilia Mio!
Brilliant idea! Guilia’s flowers are exquisite and this design would be perfect for this coat.
Look #1 is so much better, especially since headbands, (even the right colored ones to match the coat!) don’t appeal to me at all. Kate wore the saucer for TWO Christmases, 2015 and 2019, each with a different coat. Compare and contrast.

Christmas 2019 – contrasting grey coat (my favorite of the 3!)

Agree, Jimbo. Really liked this hat with the gray coat!
They’re both nice, but I feel the bandeau really only ‘works’ from one angle. The saucer has a lot more interest.
Definitely Look 1, I am not a fan of headbands. She looked superb.
Off topic, but did the poll on favorite repeated hat ever close? I never saw a summary and when I went back to the post just now, it let me vote again!
It appears I have not gotten here quickly enough for my comments to be original — I agree with what appears to be the consensus, Look #1. As Marike said, it may just be the lighting, but the green of the hat is absolutely perfectly matched to the coat. I am also less fond of bandeau headpieces as a substitute for a full hat, but even so, I would have liked this one much better if it had picked up the green of the coat. In both the darker interior photos and nighttime exterior shots, I felt like the black barely showed against Kate’s dark hair.
Both are good looks overall, but #1 is the winner for me since I prefer cocktail hats and green!
Don’t like the headbands with any outfits, don’t look smart and just don’t get them!
Look 1 for me as well. The matching green hat looks so smart.
I prefer Look #1, with the green saucer hat. But it might also just be the quality of the photographs or day vs night. Both are fine, and I love this coat and the Duchess in green.
Definitely the Lock &Co hat. I don’t love these Alice bands on steroids, but also this one is black, surely it would make much more sense for it to be in the forest green velvet of the accents of the coat? She’s done that with the red version of the coat and it’s much more successful.
Definitely look 1 for the hat, albeit the I erall look would be better with black hosiery.
Ditto!

No contest. Lovely as Catherine looks in the headband, give me a proper hat every time!
