The Harris Tweed hat is described by the milliner as a Duchess hat.
HQ, is this a style of hat or the individual milliner’s name for an in-house style? At first glance, I thought this was a trilby but then I noticed a button or brim peaking out from below.
Crown Prince Haakon reminds me to ask who else has been keeping up with “Atlantic Crossing” on PBS in the US? (not certain of its availability elsewhere) Lots of good hats, even if the historical accuracy has (of course) been sacrificed a bit more for the drama as the show has continued haha.
Hi Jake, I watch Atlantic Crossing. I brought that up a few weeks ago on a CP Martha photo Hat Queen featured. It’s a good show, isn’t it?Her hats are amazing. The actress answered some questions on Masterpiece’s Instagram last week. She’s very thoughtful with her answers.
Hey Shanon, sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that no one had talked about the show before; I mentioned it more as a check-in to see if people were still watching/enjoying it. In fact, I have you and everyone else on that post to thank for introducing me to it! I’ve learned a lot from watching it and then researching the true story behind everything. And fun to watch the hats show up and see if/how they are based on real historical hats.
No apology necessary. Glad you are enjoying it. I haven’t watched last night’s episode yet, but will catch up tonight. Like you, I research the story as well (same while watching The Crown). I do wish there was more on CP Martha as she sounds so interesting (along with her sister Queen Astrid of The Belgians).
And thank you Matthew for mentioning the actress’s name is Sofia Helin. She’s lovely. I think that’s wonderful she also learned Norwegian for the role. I don’t listen to many podcasts, but I will certainly check Masterpiece’s out. Thank you for that recommendation!

Sofia Helin (the actress) was also interviewed at length on the Masterpiece Studio podcast on April 11. I love the fact that like the real Martha, she is Swedish by birth and learned Norwegian especially to perform this role!
Great selection of hats this week, HQ – the incorporation of the Kasmiri embroidery is wonderfully done and so original, and also another beautiful one from Wies.
We’re still watching, too! It’s a compelling story, even if not historically accurate (from what I’ve seen). I did not know that the actress had to learn Swedish for the role — very impressive. It’s interesting to hear about the war from the Norwegian perspective.
