Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik arrived in Germany today to begin a three-day state visit to Berlin and Munich.
Queen Margrethe wore a new hat for the event, a brimmed design covered in the same denim blue fabric as her suit. A quartet of striped feathers bound in blue silk ribbon trim one side.

The colour and scale of this hat are lovely, as is its impeccable finishing- there is not a single visible stitch or pucker in the bias binding on the brim. I wish for more textural contrast in the overall ensemble (the look is improved by the addition of Queen Margrethe’s ivory coat) and would prefer the feathers were larger to give that hat a bit more visual punch. It’s a little sedate for me, as is.

Royal Hats 
This whole outfit is a really lovely colour and shape, very elegant but still with enough interest to be on brand for QMII.
Interesting that the hat grew two more feathers after it was photographed!
I think she looks lovely, the hat is a beauty and the ivory coat really looks quite beautiful. The German First Lady always looks impeccable.

HQ, I agree with all your comments: the color, scale, finishing, and shape are fantastic. Yes, larger feathers would be nice, but beggars can’t be choosers . . . we saw a new hat today, and a wonderful, cheerful smile to boot! If given the choice of which Royal family to meet, I’d be hard-pressed between the Danish and the Dutch, with their approachable, friendly style with “normal” people.
Considering virtually all of Margrethe’s new brimmed hats in the last 2-3 years have had very minimal trim (just hatbands and small bows), I welcome the feathers for something not quite so sedate haha. I agree though overall it is a simpler design (especially compared to many hats Margrethe has worn in the past), but I think it is a lovely new addition to her hat closet and look forward to future outings.
Too bad we didn’t get another hat on First Lady Elke Büdenbender like we did with the Swedish state visit; her outfit definitely would’ve worked with with a brimmed design of some sort.
