This Week’s Extras

On Wednesday, Crown Princess Kiko wore her inky blue wide bandeau for Emperor Naruhito’s scaled-down birthday celebration.

The following new millinery designs (and sinamay lampshade designs made using millinery techniques!) caught my eye this week (see the comments for more):

It’s less than 100 days until the Platinum Jubilee! We’re going to do a 70-day countdown here on Royal Hats (yes, of course it will include hats!) and here’s a sneak peek into the official celebration.

  1. In a week of bad news, I thought some might get a bang out of a new children’s book. Kat Hats, by Daniel Pinkwater with illustrations by Aaron Renier, is about a shop that specializes in training cats to serve as headpieces, with its star, Thermal Herman 6-7/8, performing a heroic rescue. 2. Princess Estelle is just darling!

Appreciating the many novel looks in the new designs, especially the under-brim “rings” in the Suzanne Hats design, the rush-woven top hat, and the vintage embroidered cloth cloche. And that black and white Millinery Jill butterfly is a knockout!

  3. I’d like to share this picture of one of the amazing creations of Asya Kozina, an Ukrainien artist.
I know this corner of the internet should be a lighthearted place, filled with beauty and delight, but right know my heart is heavy. The situation in Eastern Europe is extremely worrying, not just for Ukraine, but also for the rest of the European continent. Please have a thought for the Ukrainian people today and maybe a small gesture of help.
