  1. A beautifully elegant look from Princess Margaret. The scalloped hat is so chic with the velvet coat. I love the picture seated with the wedding party.

  2. Great hat and I wish I could have seen that coat. The velvet and fur look sumptuous!!! Margaret looked lovely wearing the hat and coat.

  3. Princess Margaret looked quite elegant. I found some more information about this hat, since I too wondered what color it was. I hope this is helpful.

    1. It was worn (for possibly the 1st time) on November 27, 1952 for a ship launching. Tap on the “show more” below the photo, and the description says the coat is grey velvet and fur lined.

Also, enjoy a 41 second video of the occasion. (What a waste of good champagne!)

    2. Margaret wore the ensemble 2 months later, on January 24, 1953 in Edinburgh, to the wedding of the Earl of Dalkeith at St. Giles Cathedral.

  4. The hat is great. I think it’s hard for shorter people to achieve “elegance” (that’s my excuse, anyway!), and I think Margaret was quite short, but this is a very elegant look, at least in a black and white photo! I do wonder about the colours, though – did the hat match the coat? Given that the coat has fur trim, I think I’d want the hat to match the coat colour or there might be too much going on.
