The Earl and Countess of Wessex took in the second day of racing at Royal Ascot today. Sophie wore a new denim blue sinamay saucer hat with matching inverted crin binding, crin ruffle and silk flowers.

It’s such a great hat with wonderful balance of shape and trim. I think it’s also a great pairing for Sophie’s broderie anglaise dress, the monochrome colour creating harmony between the different textures. Yes, there is a lot of textures happening at once but I think it still works.

What do you think of Sophie’s new hat today?

She looked lovely! That blue was a stunning color on her that really played up her eyes.
A gorgeous look for Sophie and in a color we have rarely seen on her; my only issue with the ensemble itself is I would remove the large ruffles that run over her shoulders.
The only other thing is that while it looks great on Sophie, this feels very much like a Kate ensemble (especially the color thanks to her recent blue streak), and this one from Ascot 2019 popped into my mind immediately when I first saw this:

Sophie’s dress is a bit too Little House on the Prairie for my taste.
What an absolutely beautiful hat. I love the crin in between the flowers. This reminds me of hats worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, but the crin really keeps it looking different and fun.
It is a lot of blue paired with the dress, but I can’t wait to see what she pairs with this hat in the future. Really, a stunning piece of craftsmanship.
I love the size, color. and trim of the hat. I would just remove the ruffles from the dress and then I would love the whole ensemble. She is such a beautiful woman!
I don’t know why, I’m just not loving this. Perhaps it’s a lot of one strong colour, or that there’s a lot of design going on. I don’t know, I just find it such a strong abojt turn from yesterday’s stellar look. Perhaps it’s the comparison. I think I need to come back to it, and then I’ll probably think it’s amazing!
This is a stunning hat debuted by The Countess of Wessex today.
The colour is fabulous. The style, size, shape and trim are just gorgeous. I think it teams beautifully with the broderie anglaise dress. It is a lot going on but The Countess easily carries it off.
And like Princess Beatrice it’s a complete contrast to yesterday’s look.
The Earl looks especially smart with his bright tie and two tone rose complimenting his elegant black top hat.
Another great hat on Sophie and that color is lovely on her. I’d just tweak it slightly to remove that leaf that is in the center of her forehead. I don’t love the ruffle on her dress but the leaf is bugging me much more 😀
