Ascot 2022 Day 2: Prince of Wales & Duchess of Cornwall

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall led the royal carriage procession again today for the second day of Royal Ascot. The Duchess wore a new hat, in fine cream straw with angular crown and gently sidesweeping brim. The sleek design is trimmed simply with a monochrome cream silk padded hatband.

Thanks to reader Jake Short for the reminder this hat was worn first for the opening of parliament last year- Camilla has so many hats in this same shape it’s difficult to keep them straight.  This one is fine… but with so many other cream hats in her wardrobe, I’m curious about why another has been added.

What do you think of the Duchess’ new hat today?

  1. It can’t be Royal Ascot without Camilla showing up in one of her cream hats and outfits haha. While it’s a nice look, I find it too subdued for Ascot; this hat is much better as a working hat and not special occasion IMO, although Buffy’s idea of jeweled hat pins (or brooches or other jewelry) as additions to simpler hats like these could help liven them up.

  2. The room Camilla keeps her hat boxes in just be bloomin’ enormous. Nice hat, but she’s slightly turning into the Queen Mum in buying the exact same thing umpteen times.

  3. While I am always here for good hat floof which Cams and Treacy do to perfection, it’s nice to have a streamlined version. This one is a great pairing with this dress. You know what I think Cams could successfully bring back – honking big JEWELED hat pins! Wouldn’t that be fun?

  4. It is a very good hat in itself, and plays to Camilla’s strengths, being a shape she pulls off so well. I’m not sure I could distinguish it from her other very very similar hats, though… It seems daft to be saying it about something so suitable and beautifully executed, but perhaps it would be good to see a bit more diversity in her milliinery!

  5. I do admire all of The Duchess’s wide brimmed hats but I was a little disappointed that we didn’t see another colour today after yesterday’s gorgeous aqua hat.
But it’s a beautiful hat for today though I’m just not overkeen on the padded hatband.

The Prince of Wales looks good with black top hat and lilac touches today.
