Here’s a fascinating article about these photos which were probably taken closer to 1854 than Getty’s estimated date of 1840s. The pair of images are slightly different, so when viewed together, they appear three-dimensional. Remember the old View-Masters growing up?

I remember the old View-Masters, Jimbo, but I admit to never giving a moment’s thought to how they worked. I was unable to focus my eyes in such a way as to see these pairs 3-dimentionally, but they (and the article) are still fascinating.
HatQueen, do you know anything about the costume research and design for the Jenna Coleman “Victoria” series (shown in the U.S. on PBS)? There was a wonderful scene in it where Nancy Skerrett, her ladies maid, was in a workroom entirely filled with hats. Obviously the hats in any costume drama are not the real thing, but I wonder to what extent the ones in this series are based on historical reality.
