Monday’s guest post on the Queen Juliana exhibition at the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam inspired me to take a look back at her life in hats:

How fun to see her in the doughnut styles favored by several royals today. Many of her looks remind me the QEQM — not so surprising since they were born about nine years apart. The photo with the young princesses and Eleanor is wonderful, and so is the one with Wilhelmina and Juliana both wearing simple berets.
Juliana liked a lot didn’t she! Lots of them don’t translate well to today, but those are the styles of the 60s/70s; whether they all suited her is another matter!
She always seemed to be a very amiable, well liked person and a very popular Queen; her daughter followed very clearly in her footsteps.
This was a fantastic retrospective of Juliana’s hats! She had quite a few fabulous ones, and I think she would rock Máxima’s slice hats if she was still alive since I think those upturned brim hats flattered her face so well.
Bonus points to Eleanor Roosevelt in that beautiful dark colored hat in the last photo of the second slideshow of the post.
Many of her hats look as lovely today as the did when she first wore them. Also she had the same face from babyhood.
