Way back in November, Princess Nobuko wore a lovely red brimless calot to a Red Cross convention.

On Friday, Queen Margrethe repeated her purple brimmed hat with bow trim to open a new exhibition on 150 years of representation of women and gender in art.
Also on Friday, Crown Princess Victoria wore a cozy navy knit hat to visit Färnebofjärden National Park, her first in a series of outings that will take her to all of Sweden’s national parks.

Beautiful new portraits released by the Danish monarchy for Princess Mary’s 50th birthday


Queen Elizabeth has released a message on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of her Accession today. along with some lovely pictures, including several reading well wishes. What an incredible milestone this is.

Yesterday, Zara Tindall attended Cheltenham’s Festival Trial day in Julian Garner’s ‘Voyage’ hat, a black felt blocked beret with iridescent film looped bow. She was joined by her eldest daughter Mia who sported a darling dark bandeau with tan ruffled flower.

Also yesterday, Crown Princess Kiko wore a black felt brimmed hat with upturned brim and pinstriped ribbon hatband for Team Japan’s scaled down Olympic Union Ceremony.

Princess Victoria Romanovna wore a luxe fur hat while in Moscow this week.

Several readers have communicated their frustration about not being able to view links to posts on Instagram without opening personal accounts there. While milliners and others in the visual arts widely use this platform to share their creations, I agree it is unfair to require a personal account for one to simply browse. As such, I’m going to experiment with a format change here, sharing two or three Instagram embedded photos of hats that have caught my eye in the post as usual but posting the others in comments, instead of links, so that everyone can see them. We’ll try this for a few weeks- please share your feedback. 

Tuesday saw a lovely array of blue and green hats on the Imperial princesses for the annual New Year Ceremony of the Utakai Hajime (poetry reading).

Brilliant observation from Prisma that the pale blue hat Princess Tsuguko wore January 14 for the New Year’s lectures has undergone renovation since its last outing.

Last Sunday, Princess Akiko wore a pink cuffed cloche to award the Japan University Rugby Football Championship.

On Friday, members of the Imperial royal family attended the annual New Year lecture at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

 Princess Margherita of Savoy-Aosta, Archduchess of Austria-Este, passed away on January 10. This series of slides shows her incredible royal family connections.

 

And we end with the most wonderful family portrait released by the Danish court on the occasion of Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee.
