Hat From the Past

Royal Hats to a June 21, 1986 visit by Princess Anne to Toronto. The Duchess of Gloucester wasn’t the only British royal to use large headbands in place of hats for a brief window in the mid 1980s. This one is all kinds of citrusy, aerobic, 1980s, goodness.

A number of hats caught my eye this week:

Very pretty pastel straw fedora hats by Canadian hatmaker, The Saucy Milliner

And finally, I’m bursting with pride that the first female ever to Captain The Queen’s Guard during Changing the Guard was Canadian Soldier Captain Megan Couto on Monday this week. What a great honour for Canada’s 150th birthday.

Funeral of Countess Mountbatten of Burma

Members of the British royal family attended the funeral of Patricia Knatchbull, Countess Mountbatten of Burma, today at St Paul’s Church in Knightsbridge. The Countess, who was the Duke of Edinburgh’s first cousin, Queen Elizabeth’s third cousin and the Prince of Wales’ last surviving godparent, died June 13 at the age of 93.

Royal Ascot | Royal Hats Princess Anne pulled out the stops for Ladies’ Day today, pairing the wonderful green dress we saw her wear three week ago with a new, matching hat.
