Duchess of Cornwall Supports Military Charities

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall attended a service and tea party in London today in support of the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association, an organization that supports recipients of these military honours. For this event, Camilla finally ended her six-month streak of black hats with one in navy and cream. The repeated piece features a wide cream straw brim and high, moulded crown around which is wrapped a folded sash in navy straw. The hat is trimmed in a slim stripe of cream around the brim, a multi looped knot and a soaring, curved feather. It’s a beautifully balanced hat that Camilla carries so well, especially in combination with her dress and coat.

While my archives show this hat to be more than ten years old, the classic navy and cream scheme prevent its ageing and the great proportion on Camilla makes us focus on the whole instead of small details that, on their own, might begin to date it. I continue to love this hat and while we’ve seen it a lot, am not ready to see it retired. What do you think of this piece?

Duchess of Cornwall Attends Service of Thanksgiving

On Tuesday, the Duchess of Cornwall attended a Service of Thanksgiving at St Margaret’s Church to celebrate the life of for former Chancellor of the Exchequer and Foreign Secretary Geoffrey Howe (Lord Howe of Aberavon) who died last October. For this service, she repeated her black straw hat with tall, squared crown, raised brim on one side and simple bow trim. It is a more streamlined design than Camilla usually wears (a nice change for her, I think) but the textural weave of the straw gives it a decidedly more informal feel that seems a little at odds with such a formal dress and coat. This hat’s last outing saw it paired with a less formal, ruffled collar dress– a pairing I think worked more successfully.

Maybe I’m nitpicking here- what do you think?

Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Visit Serbia

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall continued their Balkans, moving on to Serbia today. For their arrival in Belgrade, Camilla wore a more streamlined, black version of the hat she wore yesterday. While the trimmed faux fur cuff brim does lend a more formality to this hat than many of its other twins, I wish she had instead repeated the black Philip Treacy felt hat she paired with this beautiful coat at Christmas.

Duchess of Cornwall Keeps Warm in Croatia

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are on a two-day visit to Croatia this week. Today, their itinerary included a tour of a stud farm where Camilla was presented with a traditional Croatian hat and a stop in the small town of Osijek where they were greeted by dancers in traditional folk costume. For these events, the Duchess repeated her ruched hat in chocolate wool with faux fur cuff brim. It’s a casual, working hat that was successfully ‘dressed up’ with her gorgeous cream coat, polka dot dress and chocolate accessories into a smart ensemble.

Inventory: Duchess of Cornwall’s Green Hats

To kick off our look at green hats this month, we’re venturing into the Duchess of Cornwall’s millinery closet. Camilla is certainly a fan of all things green with six pieces in her inventory (more than most other royals, as we’ll see in coming weeks) including several leafy designs and the most festive of St. Patrick’s Day hats:

When I think of royal statement hats, I don’t immediately think green but each of these pieces is truly a statement hat in its own right. While I prefer the darker brimmed pieces, the fantastic floral fascinators remind me just how brave Camilla is when it comes to her hats. What pieces here are your favourites on her?
