Last weekend, Queen Margrethe of Denmark toured the exhibition ‘Transformations – Classical Sculpture in Colour’ at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum in Copenhagen.  For this visit, Margrethe wore a grey straw hat we have not seen in a long time- so long that this is its first appearance here on Royal Hats! With a rounded grey straw crown and very lightly woven grey straw brim, this hat was trimmed with a large melon coloured feather and band around the crown in the same print as Margrethe’s coordinating blouse (see a better view of this hat here). I love the lightness of the transparent straw brim, the shape and the scale of this hat on Margrethe, and how the pale grey contrasts with those unexpected hits of orange. I’m just not sure about that oddly placed feather trim. What do you think?

Queen Margrethe of Denmark opened an exhibition today at the Nationalhistoriske Museum in Hillerød on the separation of Denmark and Norway, 200 years ago. For this opening, Margrethe repeated her red straw textured hat. While there’s nothing new to say about this hat (we have seen it many times before), I do give Queen Margrethe bonus points for dressing in the colours of the Danish and Norwegian flags.

Last Thursday, Queen Margrethe of Denmark opened the new Museum of Music in Copenhagen. For this event, she repeated her pale blue bumper hat with ribbon and braid trim around the crown. This is the first time she has paired this hat and matching jacket with this floral silk dress and I think the combination is light and oh-so lovely. What do you think of this pairing?

Queen Margrethe of Denmark arrived in Germany yesterday for a two day tour that saw her view a Viking ship exhibit and visit the Brandenburg Gate. For events over these two days, Margrethe donned the same hat, changing out the band around the crown to coordinate with her outfits. We saw Margrethe take this same approach to hat wearing on her recent summer cruise in Denmark and seems an ingenious way to travel efficiently.

For the final stop today on the 2014 summer tour aboard the royal yacht Dannebrog, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik sailed to Vesthimmerlands Kommune. For their trip ashore to the town of Aars, Queen Margrethe repeated the red straw hat with daisy trim, nautical flag printed dress and red blazer we saw her wear in Ringkøbing on Wednesday. We have seen this hat enough times that there is nothing new to add… I suppose the only thing to say is how fun it is to see the royal couple clearly having a marvelous time.
