Best New Royal Hat of 2015: Netherlands

2015 best hat small

We are half way through narrowing down contenders for the Best New Royal Hat of 2015!  Turning our focus to The Netherlands today, we have thirteen more millinery finalists that cover a rainbow of colours and styles. To streamline the poll, I have omitted a number of less memorable hats (links are provided below). Click on any of the photos to jump back to original posts to see additional description and detail of the hats.

The hats with the most votes across this semifinal will move forward to a final poll. If you don’t think any of these hats are worthy of the title of Best of 2015, save your vote (or jump back to vote again for hats from Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, or Luxembourg and Norway).

Queen Máxima Presents Prix de Rome

Queen Máxima was at the Appel Arts Centre in Amsterdam today to attend the Prix de Rome award, a scholarship for arts students established in 1663 during the reign of Louis XIV of France. She showed some of her own artistic flair, turning up in a wonderful colour blocked dress topped with her rounded pillbox hat. The simple hat, which is trimmed with a flat, layered bow at the back, was a great counterpoint to the vibrant dress and balanced it beautifully. I love the ensemble (even the costume earrings worked!) and think it is one of Máxima’s best of the year.

Sometimes a simple hat is all an ensemble needs to elevate it from fine to fabulous! What do you think of Queen Máxima’s hat choice today?

Dutch Queen Opens Fish Trade Facility

Queen Máxima was in Rotterdam yesterday to open a new building for fish merchant Schmidt Zeevis. For this event, the Queen repeated her much worn charcoal grey velvet felt slice hat. We have seen Máxima wear this piece on numerous occasions (and with six different ensembles) but for me, this outing reminded what a great shape and scale it is. Máxima sometimes over-accessorizes her outfits but  the pairing of her smoky quartz button earrings was perfect with this hat

Queen Máxima Opens Medical Research Facility

Queen Máxima was in Nijmegen today to officially open three state of the art operation rooms in the Medical Innovation and Technology Expert Center (MITEC) of Radbout University. She used the occasion to début a new fuzzy brown calot hat.

In theory, the mix of brown accessories with Máxima’s pink dress is a great success. In reality, however, this hat looks looks more like a well worn thrift shop find than the couture millinery it actually is. While the calot shape is a great one for Máxima (especially at such less formal engagements), I think the material used for this hat is all sorts of wrong.
