We think we recognize her by her bright and sparkling blue eyes, the triple strand of pearls, that ever-present black purse, or her megawatt smile. In reality, we recognize her her by her hat.
Today, on the 87th birthday of Queen Elizabeth, I offer special thanks along with my celebratory congratulations. She is, after all, the first person we all think of when we hear the words “royal hat”. Happy Birthday, Ma’am.

When I think of Queen Elizabeth I always think of her wearing a hat. That first photo of her against the portrait of the first Elizabeth is quite the picture.
Although, thanks to this blog and its author, when I think of royal hats I now think of Queen Beatrix!
Until I read this blog I didn’t know there was another queen that also wore a lot of hats. I’m also glad that I was introduced to Queen Beatrix here before she retired. I wonder if Queen Elizabeth wishes that she could retire too. I don’t want that to happen of course but I just wonder how she feels about it. She has done her duty so well for 60 years she deserves to slow down a bit.

The Queen is such an inspiration. At 87 she is still completely committed to her role and duty. We are lucky to have her.
