King and Queen of the Netherlands Celebrate Remembrance Day

The new King and Queen of the Netherlands conducted their first official engagement today in Amsterdam. For their attendance at this Remembrance Day ceremony in Dam Square, Máxima wore a new black straw cloche with a slightly elongated crown, mushroom brim and large black silk rose. While Máxima’s hats are almost always designed by Fabienne Delvigne, this one looked surprisingly close to a Philip Treacy hat (see the Countess of Wessex in a similar Traeacy hat here). Whomever the designer, I thought this hat was gorgeous and balanced the right amount of queenly glamour with restraint fitting for this solemn occasion. What did you think of Máxima’s first hat appearance as queen?

  1. Beautiful hat and all the detail her coat is wonderful as well, Queen Maxima looks great.

  2. Magnifique! This hat is an excellent choice for this sombre event and allowed our newest queen’s impeccable and glorious style to show. Bella Maxima!

  3. Really like this hat. The shape is nice on her and yes it does look a bit like Sophie’s hat. I think Max looks great here – downplayed for the solemn event yet still very fashionable considering the light of many is still on the new royals.
