King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima continued their Caribbean tour with a visit to Bonaire today. For the first time so far this trip, Máxima unveiled a new hat! It appears to be a cream fabric pillbox with large stacked bow on one side. I like the colour and scale of this hat, especially paired with this new sorbet-striped summer dress, although the bow on the side seems oddly out of proportion. I realize it’s a little dangerous to wish for a more dramatic bow from Máxima (see here) but this bow looks like a bunched up wet washcloth stuck to a perfectly nice little pillbox.
UPDATE: This was actually a convertible hat! The designer is also confirmed as Fabienne Delvigne.

Royal Hats 
I love Max in these gelati colours! Alas, this hat is horrendous in my view. I just don’t get these crown-less affairs, and I feel the fabric is too heavy to be worn with summery clothes. Straw would be both sensible and cool for the setting. I’m sure Max has those shoes in at least 3 colours – they must be comfortable, if not flattering. Sorry, it’s mis-matched Max today. But her vivacious personality always over-rides her clothes.
It’s a smart choice for hot and humid conditions.
I love her summer clothes on this visit, and the hats seem like a formality she must endure almost. However, I loved the orange hat, the straw material and folded shape was so pretty. This hat just doesn’t quite work, the color is ok but the bow thing doesn’t work. By the way, she looks really healthy – great skin, hair, etc., so attractive.
Yes, I sure agree with you Hat Queen, dirty wet wash cloth for sure. What is going on with her these last few days…………..
The bow on this hat works to counter balance how saccharine sweet her dress is. It give some much needed modern edge to the outfit.
I like the hat, except for the bow. I think she looks very lovely here. I had to wait before I could really examine the hat because of the expression on her face in the first picture. It’s like “What the…(insert word of choice here)…is that!” I had such a good laugh. I hesitate to think what my face would have looked like seeing whatever that thing was!!! 🙂 Anyway, I prefer the hat from the view in the last picture because I think the bow distracts from the hat.
With the updated pictures, the hat makes more sense. It is not necessarily to my taste but it does suit her.
