Danish Royals Go Hunting

Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim kicked off the Royal Hunt at Grib Skov yesterday. Queen Margrethe wore a Rapunzel headscarf while Prince Henrik wore a tweed newsboy cap (if you can look past his red socks to notice his hat). Prince Joachim was the only non-crazy dressed one of the bunch in a wintery wool fedora.  Don’t they all look like they are costumed for the reenactment of a Norse folk tale?! You can see a short video of this event on the Danish Royal website.

  1. Not sure if you are thinking of Henrik’s cap as crazy, or just his socks, but I think in Europe the cap would be seen as standard country headgear for most men going hunting or anything outdoors. Many older men wear them all the time – there are a couple of older gentlemen who pass my door daily (this is in England) wearing them, and my father-in-law used to wear one constantly outside too. They would just be called a flat cap here, I think, not a newsboy cap. On the other hand, Margrethe’s enveloping / trailing scarf is slightly weird…

  2. I’m glad they had fun! I know which folk tale they were reenacting! “Little Red Hunting Socks!” The big bad wolf had better hide! lol I actually liked Henrik and Joachim’s hats…everything else…not so much. 🙂
