Members of the Dutch Royal Family joined Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the Four Freedom Awards ceremony in Middelburg today. Queen Máxima unveiled a spectacular new picture hat for this event in a shade of vivid burgundy. The large scale of this hat along with its gently curved mushroom brim make it an absolute show stopper and its pairing with this fabulous orange and burgundy dress is classic Máxima. I thought she looked amazing.

Princess Beatrix also looked beautiful in a black straw hat with upturned brim, layered crown, and spray of fuchsia flowers on the side. The gossamer straw gives this hat such a light feeling and I love how the uplifting movement of the hat compliments the tailored cowl neck of Princess Beatrix’s dress. So very, very pretty.

Not to be outdone on this day of stellar Dutch royal hats, Princess Margriet wore a cornflower blue hat with a snugly fitting crown and a light straw halo brim. It’s an unusual hat shape that works very well with Margriet’s short hairstyle and served as a chic accessory for her blue and white suit.

What’s better than an event with fabulous royal hats to honor individuals who are promoting freedom in our world?! I’m curious, dear readers, to hear your thoughts on this trio of Dutch royal hats.
How did I miss this???? Another outfit where Maxima knocks it out of the park. The colors are perfect for her.
Dear Maxima- Please, Please, PLEASE keep wearing these large hats and ditch the small ones with open tops.
Fabulous!! Queen Max is stunning! Love the whole look! Great family presence.
The outfit looks great on Maxima and I love the vibrant, tropical colour combination.
Max can rock a big hat like no one else. This is very pretty on her. Love the accessories.
Love, love, love, the raspberry hat, shoes, clutch, and yes there are gloves! Wonderful, elegant raspberry gloves. And thanks to the dress it didn’t all look too matchy, matchy.
Fabulous — all three! Máxima hit it out of the ballpark with this one.
Why do some commentators think that the pony tail is a fake? Maxima has long hair and it’s colour is similar, so why should she use a hairpiece?
I like the looks of all three ladies, they are lovely.
She has very thin hair. This is too thick. I always can see when it is a fake one.
What I like about Queen Max: the orange and burgundy dress; the hat if it wasn’t so huge; the earrings; the burgundy leather gloves; the clutch purse; and the orange hatpin.
What I don’t like: the sheer size of the hat; the fake ponytail; and the matching burgundy shoes is overkill, perhaps a nude shoe might have worked better.
Princess Beatrix’s hat is elegant and versatile; the pearls have great lustre and I like the simplicity of a single string; her earrings are colorful and coordinate with the dress; and the dress with its colorful print.
Princess Margriet’s cornflower blue hat suited her very well, and while i liked the color of the suit, the print and style looked a bit dated to me, and I didn’t like the white pointy-toed shoes, which drew attention to her feet.
Wowee, now there’s a hat!! Gorgeous colour and the whole ensemble so beautifully put together without even a hint of “Tiffany Try Hard”. Loving the gloves…..and loving the close ups. 10/10. Thankyou Maxima, THANKYOU.
Love the hat. I wish the dress had matching sleeves.
I am afraid this hat looks like an umbrella.
Max looks great other than the faux hair tail! Why?? It’s interruptible. Bravo for her pairing those colors that most would never try. Bea looks great. The hot works really well on her and with the dress.
I agree, Maxima looks amazing. So good that I can overlook her awful fake ponytail.
OMG Maxima looks AMAZINGLY FABULOUS in this hat and dress. When she gets it right, she gets it SO RIGHT.
