Seeing Double: Duchess of Cornwall

Royal HatsLast week, the Duchess of Cornwall wore a new black straw hat from Lock & Co. While this black hat was new, it was certainly familiar- Camilla has a twin, in natural straw. The upturned brim on the natural hat is far less pronounced and the crown has an ever-so-slight domed top but the two hats are most certainly related.

Unlike other royals with two versions of the same hat, this pair of hat twins makes sense to me. I suspect that one can never have too many black hats in one’s royal millinery closet – the shape of this one prevents it from being too boring while the simple embellishment keeps it away from being fussy. In natural straw, this hat is a neutral and versatile piece that can easily be dressed up or down. What do you think of this pair of straw hats on the Duchess?

  1. I prefer the beige just because the domed crown on the black one reminds me too much of the 90’s. But both seem like they would be good workhorse additions to any closet for the 100’s “normal” small outings that she makes a year without huge press coverage.

  2. I like both hats but I would prefer the beige one with a suit in a similar colour palette rather than with the blue where it makes Camilla look a little washed out. Perhaps a stronger lipstick colour would have helped. The black just “sings” more with the nicely cut black jacket, the print dress and her signature pearl choker.

  3. The black hat is the most becoming on her, it shows her blonde hair and stands out while the natural color blends into the color of her skin and fades away. The black hat is very chic and elegant with what she is wearing.

  4. The black one is more flattering on her I believe, but having such a neutral one would have to be good when she has to wear hats so often. Somehow the natural one seems almost too large on her, and is down on her head farther. or maybe that is just how it appears to me without my glasses. 😀
