One Hat, Six Suits

Royal Hats Crown Princess Mary of Denmark relies on her black straw Susanne Juul hat for many occasions. While we have seen it at a number of memorial services and funerals (see here, here, here and most recently here) this hat has also accessorized outfits at numerous less sombre events. The ensembles seen here are quite diverse and include lace, tiered ruffles, a graphic wool check, and classic cut wool coats. I am curious, dear readers, which outfit to you think is best paired with this hat?

Rainy Sunday in Norfolk

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh braved strong winds and driving rain this morning to attend Sunday morning service at The Church of Mary Magdalene near their Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. The Queen repeated her pink wool hat with feather pouf. It’s a hat that looks quite lovely on her although I find the colour a little washed out (pun intended!). I also wonder how well those feathers hold up in such weather?

Please note- I have not been contacted by Mr. Boyd to publicize this event. I simply wanted to pass along news of this millinery event. If any of you dear readers are lucky enough to attend, I’m sure everyone here would love hearing about it! Likewise, if you have any noteworthy millinery news to share, please let me know.

Birthday of Princess Charlene

Royal HatsPrincess Charlene of Monaco celebrates her 36th birthday today. Charlene has not worn many hats during her royal life- when she has, they have been simple hats with clean lines, minimal embellishment and fairly flat crowns. I would love to see Charlene experiment with millinery more, and have chosen this hat from Polish label Decolove for her (fittingly named the “Queen Hat”!). I think the small scale of this hat would suit Charlene well, and the soft embellishment would be a great contrast to the clean-lined clothing she chooses. I also think the softness of this hat would be beautiful on her.

Dutch Royals Visit Rome

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands visited Rome today where they met with Italian President of Senate Pietro Grasso. Máxima repeated her unique tan wool calot trimmed with a pink feather bird sculpture. It is a hat she wears well (and not one many others could pull off!) but I preferred the tailored coat she paired with her dress the last time she wore it, rather than the unstructured overcoat she wore today. What did you think?
