On Sunday, King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel attended a special mass at Stockholm Cathedral. Part of the “Refuse to Hate” interfaith initiative, the service brought together representatives from numerous faiths in support of the Swedish Interfaith Council’s rejection of using religious arguments to legitimize hatred, violence and aggression. While Crown Princess Victoria did not wear a hat for this event, Queen Silvia wore a simple bowler in loden green felt trimmed with a ruched chocolate brown band around the crown. This sedate and rather boring hat does the job, I suppose…. but I thought this ground breaking initiative deserved a much more vibrant and exciting hat. Don’t you as well?

I quite like the Swedish Queen’s hat, and it suits her brown hair very well. It does not seem to go with her grey suit though. I like the brown scarf and it also works with the green hat. I like the grey suit, but not with this hat. The Swedish Royalty all look dignified here.
I second your comments Tatsuya Kuniyoshi. The bowler hat suits the Queen, but it’s not a hat style or colour that I could pull off.
Yawn. This hat does nothing for her. I also don’t understand the connection between the grey suit, brown scarf and green hat. It makes no sense.
I agree with what Louise E says: February 3, 2015 at 7:17 pm, “the shade of green of the hat, goes beautifully with the Queen’s dark hair”, and her whole outfit looks smart and occasion appropriate. Sedate yes, but a good choice.
Yep I am with the majority. Perhaps QS was thinking along those lines and did not want what she was wearing to be a distraction at all from the message behind the engagement. I humbly disagree. I think the understated, conservative appearing outfit is more in line with a unity message. Church does need to be a show.

No tradition in Sweden to wear a hat in church. Not even the very old ladies do it anymore
