British Royals Open Kennels

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visited the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London yesterday. This event, where the dog-loving monarch officially opened the new Mary Tealby dog kennels, saw Queen Elizabeth repeat her grey and taupe bouclé covered hat with crown embroidered in rows of gold flowers.  I have always loved the way the gold embroidery on the hat is echoed on the sleeves, buttons, and hem of the coat, creating a unified ensemble. It is a subtle detail that I think, makes this hat sing.

  1. I love this outfit. The hat is perfect – not over-embellished, and (imo) not too tall for a lady who likes substantial hats. Her Majesty wears this style of hat so well.

  2. I think this outfit is perfection. It’s just one embellishment (the gold embroidery) to coat hem, coat sleeves, coat buttons and hat crown. Unlike several much more recent coats, this appears still to fit.

  3. She really is wearing the old favourites lately isn’t she? Good to see so many of her outfits getting another spin, and really that’s pretty thrifty, this is 7 years old now – and interesting that it dos church at Sandringham duty a few times before being promoted back to more high profile engagements.

Still love this one. The gold embroidery is so subtle, I bet in the flesh it’s even more effective.

  4. A lady after my own heart who loves dogs, I do like the fabric of this outfit a great deal, the hat would be perfect if it wasn’t so tall, it is out of proportion for her size so not a good hat. Her smile says it all, she loves those dogs….

  5. I have always liked this outfit. This time the height of the hat is clear. It is too tall for her.
Wish the Queen had taken at least the corgi home with her and apparently many of the people at the kennel had hoped it would happen…but did not.

  6. I have always liked this ensemble made even nicer today by that lovely smile in photo 3 upon coming face to face with her favourite breed of dog. Lovely. Thanks.
