Princess Beatrix Visits Children’s Hospital

Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands visited her namesake Children’s Hospital at the University Medical Center Groningen to unveil a new art installation. The princess unveiled the artwork, a collage of her own portraits, with the help of one of the hospital’s young patients. For this event, Princess Beatrix repeated her large red brimless straw hat with a indented, domed crown. The shape of the crown is emphasized with navy trim. I’m on the fence about this hat at the best of times and I’m afraid its pairing with this suit puts me firmly in ‘no’ territory (I much prefer it with the navy dress and red cape Princess Beatrix wore with it on its last outing). What do you think of this red hat?

  1. I agree with many who said this hat is classic Beatrix. I do like it with the other outfit better, but like how she has paired it this outfit with a pretty red coral necklace. She reminds me of her daughter-in-law because she is usually smiling.

  2. We’ll blow me over…for the first time ever I have to say that I do not like her outfit.
Looking at a full length picture the flat crown on the hat looks like someone took hedge clippers and literally cut her off. She shrank as a result…oh dear.
But but I love her hair style.

  3. It’s hard to get excited about any part of today’s outfit. The hat does look much better with the red cape of 2013. I find the aereal shots (2, 3 and 4) the least flattering. Nonetheless, it does fit Princess Beatrix’s unwavering style.

  4. Classic Queen Cake this isn’t it! I Prefer itnwith the other outfit, but still it’s not too bad – textbook Beatrix this is!

  5. I like the fabric of her suit with the hat. Lighter feeling in the fabric go well with a straw hat. The sleeves of the suit with her blouse peeking through is too busy and just odd. I love the view from the back. Looks like she is not poofing her hair out as much as days gone by.

  6. Oh I quite like it with this outfit — the dobby red twill in the suit might be a bit weak for the cameras to pick up on, but I think it’s quite prominent and her pairing of the hat with her red coral torsade necklace is nice – and so great she didn’t go over-board with the matching accessories and put red shoes on too.
