Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh were spotted en route to church at Crathie Kirk yesterday. The Queen stepped repeated her cream bouclé hat with diagonal crown and wired sequin flower trim. These photos show the palest pink and blue weave in the fabric used for the hat and coat, a detail that has not shown up in previous outings. I suspect this hat looks better in person than it photographs, although still think the delicate trim (which is so lovely) might work better on a less clunky millinery shape.

I don’t like this hat. It demonstrates the worst aspects of Angela Kelly’s designs. Those high, diagonal crowns are unattractive. I don’t like the idea of covering a hat in tweed boucle, especially when that is what the outfit is made of, it’s just too much. I think the trim really doesn’t go with the heavy fabric of the hat and it doesn’t seem well-made to me. I don’t think the combination of flowers and sequins works. The coat looks heavy and hot, and shapeless, and its lack of a collar is out of step with the formal look of the coat and hat. The coat also has weird shiny buttons plus that ugly ruffle down the front.
Alex, you hit the nail on the head!
While I am not a fan ever of this shape of hat on her, I still like this one a lot on HM. The color combos are great for her and the flower adornments are charming and not an over-kill of decoration. She can keep repeating this one in my book.
I think this is beautiful fabric, and I like the hat, both its shape and its trim, although I that the sequins may be unnecessary.. Someone (either the Queen herself or AK) obviously likes both slanted and tall crowns, probably in the belief that it makes the Queen appear taller.
Are we expecting a new stand-out outfit tomorrow? It will be widely photographed.
May I also say something not related to hats? Look at her skin, soft and beautiful.HM is a wonder!
I really wanted to like the sequin flowers, they look too craft-store to me. I am glad to see this well lit, close up photo of the hat though, otherwise the flowers would have faded into the hat and not be seen at all
This hat has always been a bit of a fave of mine, so no complaints here. I like the pink? trim around the edge of the brim; I think it adds softness and gives the hat a finished look. I also like the shape with the slanted crown and of course the sequin trim. Nice.
I REALLY like this hat.
Pretty color on the Queen. The flowers on the hat are very delicate; much more so than what usually adorns her hats. I like it because it is something different than what the Queen normally has as decoration on her millinery.
