Princess Benedikte of Denmark was in Kiel, Germany yesterday to take part in a ceremony marking the 350th anniversary of the Christian-Abrechts-Universitaet. For this celebration, she repeated her red felt beret with stepped crown. I have long been a fan of the interesting shape of this hat and find the vibrant colour a great match for Princess Benedikte. While I’m still on the fence about the other elements in this ensemble (the blouse and earrings, to be exact), the princess’ ecru suit grounds the overall picture and allows the hat to be noticed on its own merit. In the end, it’s a very successful way to wear a royal hat.

Princess Benedikte looks fabulous as usual. This red hat is absolutely stunning and I think it’s the best hat she has ever worn. The shape is so unusual. I wonder what inspired the designer? I do think it looked better on the last outing when she paired it with grey. The red and grey combination was extremely flattering to her coloring.
The princess as usual looks so chic and modern! The hat is great! Will never go out of style…she is so stylish, unlike her younger relatives!
I like this unusually shaped hat and the red colour is ideal for her colouring. I am not crazy about the busy blouse. The earrings are unusual, and remind me of beetles, but in a good way. I just think they take some attention away from this hat.
This is one my favorite Benedikte hats and so glad to see it out again! But that blouse it quite hideous, and the jacket is what’s saving this ensemble from becoming a complete nightmare. I’m not a fan of the earrings, but they could work with this structured beret if there was a different blouse or outfit worn here.
Jake, I beg to differ with you, except on the earrings – I’m not a fan of these either. Her blouse may be over powering with the white jacket, but if the jacket was black, or a darker color, I think she’d look perfect. It’s the jacket that’s the glaring elephant in the room. Her hat is perfection.
Princess Benedikte is getting a lot of good use out of this hat. An unconventional shape, it’s actually striking with all the outfits she’s chosen to pair this hat with. (I think the earrings — a slightly in-between color, redder than colors in the blouse, pinker than the hat — do a good job of tying the whole outfit together.)
Sedate, very Royal.
