King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia arrived in Lithuania this morning to begin a two day state visit at the invitation of President Dalia Grybauskaite. For the official welcoming this morning and visits at the Presidential Palace and the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament), Queen Silvia wore a red felt calot hat trimmed with three small fabric flowers on the left side. Paired with a red coat, scarf and shoes, the ensemble seemed boringly one note until Queen Silvia removed the coat and it suddenly made sense. Her red and blue silk dress is the star and this small red hat set it off well.

The hat does look a little small perhaps, but the outfit’s initial monochrome look makes the appearance of the colorful dress all the more memorable. This probably is a good technique for royal meetings: noticeable but somewhat restrained at the first impression, then wow them once your presence has been noted and introductions are over.
You are absolutely spot on Snug Harbor.
I love it with that dress (nicked from maxima?!) but agree, it’s a bit flat just with the coat. She’s got the whole regal look down to a fine art though!!
Love the color, but I think the hat is too small for her hairstyle
She looks amazingly elegant as always.
Hat and dress are an excellent combo for sure.
