As in years past, February was a very quiet month of royal hats. Amidst this temporary drought, there were new four pieces that stood out as particularly memorable, based on your comments (including, as per your requests, the hat Queen Máxima wore late last month that missed the January poll). With four finalists, it’s now time to choose a winner!
Click on any of the photos below to jump back to original posts with additional photos and information on each hat:
Queen Máxima in a brown feathered pillbox on January 25
The Duchess of Cambridge in a navy felt Lock & Co. percher hat on February 7
Queen Elizabeth in a bright red hat with feathers and black trim on February 7
Princess Beatrix in a periwinkle blue hat with textured straw brim on February 12
Voting will remain open until February 14 at midnight GMT and each computer or mobile device can vote once per day for as many hats as you wish. To keep things mysterious, results will not be visible until the poll closes. Stay tuned later today for a second poll to narrow down the best repeated royal hat last month. Happy voting!

The Best New Royal Hat of February 2016 is Queen Elizabeth’s red and black hat. She looks smashing in red, and the shape and trim have been well executed. I also rather like Queen Máxima’s brown feathered pillbox. The colour looks good against her blonde hair and I don’t think I have ever seen a feather covered pillbox before.
It’s Queen Máxima’s brown feathered pillbox hat for the win! This is a really unique hat and I do love a great pillbox hat. The next best is Queen Elizabeth’s red and black hat. The next best is Princess Beatrix’s blue hat, with its unique textured straw brim. My least favourite hat is the Duchess of Cambridge’s navy percher. I am not a lover of perchers in general, and this one is worn too far forward, and it looks too much like a bowl.
Her Majesty QE2……Incredible colour, interesting restrained trim, coordinated red and black with just enough black to be a contrast but not overtake…….and that beautiful smile. Many thanks.
I gave this one to HM for the vibrant color and tidy trim. But as I looked back at the original post, I saw something I hadn’t noticed before. Is the top of the hat really a different red, or is that just the lighting in the photo?
Kate’s hat is actually not new. It was worn when pregnant with Charlotte for a private memorial service.
Technically yes but tracking private events is complicated. As explained before, “new” here at Royal Hats refers to the first time a hat is worn at a public event (and why this one is included here). You’ll note the original post references the hat’s previous private outing.
