Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako opened a Danish exhibition at the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo yesterday. For this event, she wore a cream silk covered hat short, upturned brim and squared crown. The hat’s only embellishment is a wide, double hatband that meets in an art deco inspired curve at the side. We’ve seen Masako in numerous pale hats in a similar shape- certainly not exciting designs but ones that she has embraced during her return to public life over the past few years.

CP Masaku’s suit and hat go beautifully together. I agree with the other comments, that it is good to see her out and about again. The brooch is most unusual.
What a great outfit. The hat is perfect for the cream suit. 100%!
Colorwise it’s not terribly exciting, but Masako looks very elegant regardless. The brooch is a great addition (one I don’t recall normally seeing for Japanese imperials), and the slightly rougher texture of her skirt suit helps elevate this whole look. I also especially love when she has her hair down. And Naruhito also looks great with his burgundy tie and pocket square!
I wonder if we see something often enough, it grows on us. I’m actually liking this hat. It reminds me of a boater or a small brimmed hat worn by Japanese school children. So it’s got a sort of cute factor for me. It strikes me as a ‘humble’ hat. But I think it was your yummy words “cream silk” that made me say yes, this is a good choice with that elegant suit.
I don’t care if she is wearing a cup and saucer on her head, I am just pleased to see her out and about and looking happy! Having said that, she does look very elegant.
Masako is my Imaginary Royal Friend, and as such, I feel very protective of her. I, too, am just glad to see her out and about, and she could wear a whole tea set on her head, and I’d still do jumpy claps. I hope she is truly well and finding happiness in her life.
Princess Masako looks beautiful and elegant. The detail and style of her hat and suit and handbag are perfect. And those pearls….!
