Hat From the Past

Royal Hats twenty-two years ago today to a service held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII.  Princess Margaret wore a yellow hat with wide brim and tall crown, swathed in a frothy cloud of tulle.

  1. Looks like she raided Granny Mary or Great Granny Alexandra’s trunks for that one. I like it. It certainly says “Hat” particularly when compared with the horrid fascinator.

  2. Makes me hungry: looks like a lemon cake with some sort of cream-like center. I’ll take a big slice, please.

  3. Margaret went very ‘big hat’ in this era. I do t hate this, but I think it’s a shame she did Tralee her early stylishness through into old age. She was such a rare beauty when young, and it always seemed so sad to me that the years weren’t kind to her.

Still. She remains my royal icon!

  4. Not my cup of tea. The tulle (or whatever it may be) doesn’t strike me as luxurious enough; and I would prefer to see a bit less of it, and a bit more of the hat proper.
However the colour is lovely. And the Princess must have liked the big frothy look, because she had any number of hats showcasing this effect.
