Queen and Duke Visit New Police Headquarters

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visited New Scotland Yard this morning to mark the opening of these new headquarters of the London Metropolitan Police. For this event, the Queen repeated her pale yellow hat with domed crown and gently upswept brim, trimmed with yellow straw bow loops, blue silk flowers and brown silk leaves. Today’s outing showed a decent peek at the ensemble’s accompanying dress, a peek that makes me finally fully embrace the hat’s trim.

Today marks the fourth outing of this outfit and hat, giving us pretty clear indication that it’s in the Queen’s favour. Has your reaction to this piece changed by today’s better view of how it relates to the dress?

  1. I am always amazed at the memories and attention to detail your other readers have! It would never have occurred to me that this hat had a larger brim last year. In any event, I the Queen looks wonderful in yellow– hat and trim, coat, and peek of dress.

  2. HM looks wonderful in yellow – she really pops out in a crowd – something that I have tried shying away from for a long time!
Jevver wonder what the dress looked like under this coat ‘n’ hat?

Here it is today, as Queen Elizabeth was heard saying under her breath, “hurry up , Phil, and we can still catch the train to Windsor!”
    Happy weekend, everyone!

  3. Blue and yellow are a classic color combo, and one I like. I’ve never liked the brown leaves, but they make more sense now. Sometimes the trimmings are too literal for my taste, but I like this hat.

  4. This butter yellow is not in the first circle of flattering yellows for HM (the reflection on her hair makes its sparkling silver colour look dull) — but I admire this hat immensely, especially the bright and cheerful effect of the blue and brown trim against the yellow. I’d love to see this colourway worn by someone with darker hair, such as P Eugenie.

  5. Regardless of the dress having the color blue in it, I still don’t care for the blue flowers on the hat because unless the blue color on her dress is showing, the blue seems to have bo connection to anything else. Queen Elizabeth looks so pretty in most colors, but the butter yellow seems to drain the pretty color of her skin. The brooch is one I don’t remember seeing before. I think this coat’s neckline is very flattering on her.

    • Regarding the brooch: It was a gift to Her Majesty on her Diamond Jubilee. She has been wearing it quite a bit! Btw, a great site for info on HM’s jewels is this one: From Her Majesty’s Jewel Vault (queensjewelvault.blogspot.com). Lots of interesting info and pretty pictures!

  6. Looking back at the past appearances of this hat and other linked posts that I’ve seen recently raises another question for me that has nothing to do with hats — does the Queen have only that one pair of earrings that she always wears for daytime engagements? It seems to me that the brooch changes regularly, but her earrings are always the same!

  7. I didn’t like the flowers and leaves on this hat at all until today. Seeing the dress they now make sense. I don’t like the dress fabric and Rachel Trevor Morgan has done a great job on the hat considering what she had to work with!
