On Wednesday, Queen Margrethe awarded ‘The Queen’s Clock’ military award following a parade at The Royal Life Guard in Copenhagen. For this event, she wore a new bumper hat in spotted grey sealskin with a matching coat. As some of you have mentioned in the comments below, the pieces were gifted to Margrethe during her visit to Greenland in July 2015.

Points to Margrethe for wearing these gifts. The hat shape is not particularly successful in my mind- the crown is too pointed to be a true bumper and the black bow on the side seems completely at odds with the design.

It’s not a flattering look, but perhaps a nice gesture to the people of Greenland.
Oh dear! Why does Margarethe so consistently get it all wrong? This is a mess!
Sorry, “Margrethe” !
This is not faux fur leopard, it’s real seal fur. It was a gift from Greenland in 2015:

Wow! Now that is quite a look. Do I love it? Well yes of course in a Cruella De Vil kinda way!
I am trying very hard not to look at the coat – it is such an unflattering design.
As Margrethe’s bumpers go, this is passable, thanks to its softness and volume.
and here’s the Queen yesterday in a very bold brimmed hat which I think we’ve seen before:

Oh dear! This is not the most flattering of looks – I really don’t like it.
Not a fan of this look. I just don’t like it at all.
I would be very surprised if this is faux leopard. It really looks like seal skin to me. I spend half the year in Newfoundland, and am very familiar with this fur. Having said that, I expect I have opened a “can of worms” and will begin a debate about the use of fur. This was not my intention. Seal skin is commonly worn in northern countries where this industry is long standing.
You are right on the money, Glitter Girl. It is seal skin; I am attaching a link to photos of HM in what appears to be the same coat. I must say, that apart from any issue regarding its components, that hat has a very unfortunate profile–not a nice hat and not flattering to its wearer. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3344125/Denmark-s-Queen-Margrethe-Prince-Henrik-pose-deer-hunt-Fredensborg-Palace.html
I agree Edie that this is the same coat as featured in the 2015 DM article you link to.
Less of a can of worms with confirmation it was a gift from an area where livelihoods are made procuring (and processing) seal skins and meat. And great ID on the seal skin!
