Princess Nobuko Attends International Botanical Show

We get back to ‘normal’ royal hat coverage with a wonderfully whimsical hat worn by Princess Nobuko to the 20th International Roses and Gardening Show last Thursday. For this event, she wore a wide brimmed white crin picture hat wrapped in a wide swath of white net tulle trimmed with the same embroidered multicoloured dots as embellished her suit.

While I’d prefer the hat in more structured straw, it’s a light and lighthearted piece. Yes, it’s a bit twee but and Nobuko still wears it charmingly well.

  1. I agree with others that a solid white jacket and plain white netting (or lose the netting entirely) would have made the outfit even more perfect, but I love this departure from tradition from a Japanese princess!

  2. While I wish the brim wasn’t crushed in the front, I love this fun ensemble. The dots on the hat and jacket don’t bother me. They’re sparse enough and contrast nicely with the dress.

  3. We don’t usually see this kind of whimsy with the Japanese princesses. It makes a welcome change. I agree that it’s a lot of dots, so I’m voting for the white jacket.

  4. So fun to see such a wide brimmed hat on a Japanese princess, and of course Nobuko is the one to pull it off! My only complaint is (and I pretty much agree SoCal Gal) I wish there weren’t polka dots on either the hat and/or the jacket; there are too many now, but remove them from one or both of these pieces, and it would be even more fantastic.

  5. I’m having all kinds of trouble with the blog and the pictures say that “Facebook” has removed the pictures.

      • Thanks for fixing the pictures HatQueen! I like the hat but would have preferred that the veil netting should not have had the polka dots. Her whole ensemble would have looked wonderful if her jacket was plain white along with the netting. Then the dress would have been a whimsical surprise and more balanced. Her smile and pearls are wonderful!
