Queen Elizabeth was joined this morning by the Prince of Wales at Westminster Abbey to officially open The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries.

For this event, she repeated her mulberry straw hat with stepped crown and gently sideswept brim, trimmed with a side posy of handmade silk flowers and mulberry a straw multi-looped bow.

There’s not much to add about this hat- the colour, scale, stepped crown shape and balanced trim are all lovely on Her Majesty. I can only imagine she agrees, as it’s not often a new design is worn four times in its first year as this one has!

The Grima “volcano” brooch looks particularly effective paired with this hat, because of its colours being so similar to the trim. I can hardly believe it, but this hat has actually convinced me to like this brooch. Millinery magic…..

The vibrant colour of the hat and coat looks particularly good against the old grey stone, I think. No disappearing into the background for HM!
I was a fan the first time we saw this hat and it’s still one of my faves in current rotation.
