Hat From the Past

Royal Hats to this day in 1960 when a young King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit of Thailand embarked on a four day state visit of Italy. Pictured here in Rome, Queen Sirikit wore in a textured white turban-pillbox hybrid (of a material I can’t begin to guess at) with some sort of bejeweled trim on the front.

  1. What a lovely woman and interesting hat. I wonder if it’s made of texture tufts of silk or wool? Also love her 4 strand pearl necklace and earrings. They looked like a very cosmopolitan and chic couple.

  2. I don’t think it’s fur, it doesn’t seem hairy enough. I’m guessing some sort of very textured boucle fabric. But I agree, very stylish for that time. It would be interesting if anyone can find any additional photos giving us a better view.
