Hat From the Past

Royal Hats to this day, 30 years ago, when Princess Diana donned a vibrant blue silk Catherine Walker suit and matching wide-brimmed hat with shallow crown for the wedding of friends Camilla Dunne to the Honourable Rupert Soames at Hereford Cathedral. The sharp finishing around the crown sets this hat apart and shows the sleeker millinery style she adopted during the later 1980s (I suspect this one is from Philip Somerville)

  1. I remember this so well. This was the good end of the eighties, a very elegant and polished look. Still wouldn’t be out of place in Joan Collins though!!

  2. Lovely hat but I’m somewhat confused as to color! Some pics look blue and others look turquoise. One picture shows the side of the hat and appears that the it is held on via a turban which makes practical sense due to the shallow crown. Am I mistaken?

  3. Oh I love this hat! I’m actually not usually a fan of Diana’s millinery, largely because I don’t care for the proportions of most 80s hats, but this is so striking. She looks phenomenal.

  4. Great hat! She had the most superb eye for flair and taste, and brought out the best in every single one of her hat and dress designers.
